MV Agusta

Count Giovanni Agusta started the very successful Agusta Aviation in 1923 in Northern Italy. With the end of WWII financial hard times eventually came on the company. So in 1945 two of the Counts sons decided to diversify into the motorcycle industry as a way to save the jobs of the firms many employees. The sons, Vinenzo and Domenico, original called their newly formed motorcycle division Meccanica Verghera Agusta. Later came to be known simply as MV Agusta.

Vincenzo and Domenico Agusta had a passion for mechanical workings and for motorcycle racing. Much like Enzo Ferrari they produced and sold motorcycles almost exclusively to fund their racing efforts. They were determined to have the best Grand Prix motorcycle racing team in the world and spared no expense on their love of the sport. Because of this passion, success did come with multiple MotoGP Constructors Championships in four different GP classes. Several of their factory sponsored racers are still considered legends down to this day. Racers such as John Surtees, Gary Hocking, Carlo Ubbiali, and especially Mike Hailwood, and Giacoma Agostini, all had a great shares in making the Agusta brother's dreams come true.

With the death of Domenico Agusta in 1971, the company lost its guiding force. Financial troubles followed. Since that time MV Agusta has went through several owners. It wasn't until 2010 that the company started to recover in earnest when Claudio Castiglioni purchased the company. MV Agusta took another step forward financially in 2014 when Mercedes-AMG partnered up with Castiglioni's MV Agusta Holdings. With its beautiful lineup of fine Italian bikes MV Agusta looks to be on the front of a major comeback.
